I had the most difficult time reconciling the fact that I must write “a unique” in my stories, because the majority of the world speaks and spells it as such. Most people pronounce “unique” as “yooneek”, whereas I have pronounced it “ewneek” for as long as I can remember. To me, it begins with a vowel sound, and “an unique” feels instinctively correct. It took a little Reddit smack-upside-my-head to remind me that while the books I write come from my heart, ultimately, I write for my readers. On my own blog, I can write my words however I want, but in books meant to be shared with the world, clarity and convention is more important.
A Unique Versus An Unique
